First Church meets for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00.![]() The Sunday service is built around the reading and preaching of the Bible. We celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of every month. Worship services also include songs, prayers, an offering, quiet reflection, and the sharing of blessings. Young and old and in-between worship here. We like to laugh, we listen carefully, we sing well, we have a wonderful choir, we encourage each other, and sometimes we shed a few tears. If you have young children, you are welcome to have them sit with you in the worship service, but we also offer child care in a nursery staffed by wonderful volunteers. We have a Children's Worship ministry for children ages 3-7. The children worship with us for the first ten or fifteen minutes of our service, and then they head downstairs for worship designed for their comprehension and participation. Children's Worship includes a Bible story, a time for children to respond to the story, prayer, song, and simple litanies. We worship in an old building that includes a school in the back. Like many old buildings, this one is a hodgepodge of levels and is not maneuverable with a wheel chair. We have approved a building expansion that will make much of the building barrier-free, and we hope to break ground in the spring of 2008. Until then, there is a stair lift through the side entrance opposite the parking lot. This lift accesses the sanctuary only, and it cannot hold a wheel chair. We apologize to anyone who is not able to worship with us because of the building. We celebrate the birth of Jesus with a candlelight service on Christmas Eve. We remember the death of Jesus with a service of darkness on Good Friday. We praise God on the morning of Thanksgiving Day for his generous gifts to us and the world. Sunday School meets before the worship service. We offer Sunday School classes for children, youth, and adults. Classes begin at 9:00 and are dismissed in time to give everyone an opportunity to mosey on over to the sanctuary for worship. Classes meet from October through May. Oh, yes, and there are refreshments after most of our Sunday morning worship services: coffee, punch, cookies, and sometimes something that's actually nutritious! |
