CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES

GOD'S KIDS
God's Kids is a preschool and daycare that offers Christ-centered education to children 2½-5 years old. It meets year-round in a refurbished school building at the back of our property. Here's a little information:
God's Kids is currently accepting new children.
Call them at (313) 821-8779 or visit their website at http://www.godskidsgp.org/

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School meets at 9:00 on Sunday mornings from October through May in the Parish House. There are classes for young children (age 4 through 2nd grade) and adults.

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP
Children's Worship is, as the name suggests, a worship service for young children. It helps children worship in a way that fits their comprehension, and it also prepares them to eventually join the rest of us. About ten minutes into the morning worship service, the young children are dismissed to a worship center in the church basement, where they pray, sing, repeat simple litanies, hear a Bible lesson, and reflect on it through hands-on activities.

cadets 2006GEMS AND CADETS
GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) and Cadets are clubs for girls and boys that meet every other Monday evening. Both clubs bring children together with adult mentors for Bible study, crafts, development of life skills, and just plain fun. GEMS and Cadets are linked to international organizations that lend support and direction to the clubs.

J'S FOR JESUS
J's for Jesus is our high school youth group. The group meets twice a month, usually on Sunday evenings, for food, fellowship, and faith-development (that is, Bible study and prayer).

ADULT EDUCATION AND BIBLE STUDY

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School meets at 9:00 on Sunday mornings from September through May in the Parish House. The adult class is currently studying the Book of Acts.

20/30 SOMETHINGS
We used to call it Twenty-Somethings, but we're getting older! 20/30 Somethings meet together twice a month for fun, friendship, Bible study, and prayer.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY
The Women's Bible Study meets every other Tuesday in members' homes for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.

MEN'S BIBLE STUDY
The Men's Bible Study meets two Sunday evenings per month in members' homes for Bible study and prayer.  The men are studying the Book of Acts.

COFFEE BREAK
Coffee Break is an inductive Bible study for women. It assumes nCoffee Break 2006o Bible knowledge on the part of participants, so it's a great place for women who are curious about the Bible but afraid they don't know enough for some of the church's other Bible studies. It's also a great place for women who've known the Bible for a long time but want to visit it again in a careful study. Build your knowledge and build new friendships! Coffee Break meets Tuesday mornings at 9:45 in the Parish House.

MUSIC MINISTRIES

FIRST CHURCH CHOIR
The First Church Choir is open to anyone who wants to sing, is willing to work at it, and likes a good time. The choir sings two or three times a month from October through May, with rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 in the Fellowship Hall. This choir sings a whole variety of music: gospel, spirituals, praise and worship, classical, hymns, and whatever else they are up to trying. Sometimes they sing God's Word to the congregation, sometimes they sing on behalf of the congregation to God, and sometimes they help the congregation with its own singing. Last year they even recorded a CD, and this year director Liz Dowdell is returning for her 30th season!

BELL CHOIR
Using bells on loan from the Detroit Public Schools, we've put together a little bell choir. With children, senior citizens, and in-betweens among the members, the Bell Choir is perhaps First Church's most intergenerational ministry. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings and plays in worship services every six to eight weeks.
