Music
Music is central to Sunday morning worship at First Church. On any given Sunday you may hear hymns led by one of our accomplished organists, contemporary songs led by an ensemble of musicians, liturgical responses sung a cappella, and anthems presented by a choir or vocal ensemble. Our music is chosen and led with accessibility in mind, and is presented in such a way as to encourage the participation of everyone present. The goal of our music ministry is equipping our congregation to worship God.
Choir:
The First Church Choir plays an important role in Sunday morning services. Choir members serve as worship leaders, offering prayers, scripture songs and words of response to God through music. They function as participants in the liturgy, supporting and adorning congregational worship.
Repertoire varies from classical hymns, contemporary songs, spirituals, liturgical folk and world music. Choir rehearsals are in themselves exercises in worship and spiritual formation. Every rehearsal includes the preparation of anthems and congregational music, as well as weekly devotions and prayer.
Choir is a ministry that is open to anyone who wants to sing, is willing to work, and enjoys doing ministry with a group of fellow believers.
The choir meets from September to May, participating in two Sunday morning services every month in addition to holidays and special services throughout the year.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30pm, Sept. – May, Church Basement.
